Generals.io

Two or more generals on a grid, each hidden behind fog. It plays more like a bluffing game than a war game.

1Take the general

Capture the enemy general's tile while keeping your own. Everything else on the grid is a means to that.

2Opening in the fog

You only see the squares around your own tiles. Select a square, then move its army with the arrow keys or WASD (or tap on a phone). Armies grow slowly, so the first minutes are spent finding neutral cities, which cost troops to take and then produce more.

3Why the guessing pulls you back

Fog turns every move into a guess about what the other side can't see. Matches are quick, and a loss usually points at one specific decision.

4Ads and accounts, plus chat

Free to play, with ads on the page. Accounts exist for people who want to keep a name; what each mode needs is explained on the game's site. Chat is open to other players, so expect the usual online mix.

5Fit for fast thinkers

Players who enjoy chess-like thinking at speed and can take a loss. Not a relaxed, build-at-your-own-pace game.

6Keyboard or tap

Best on a desktop keyboard. A phone works for tapping squares but you'll notice the smaller grid.
